Every year as part of our Designers Choice Series, Steiff invite one of their designers to reinterpret classic Steiff articles, while giving free rein to their creativity.

The chosen designer for 2017 is Margit Richter, who is one of their most experienced designers and has been making wonderful creations for Steiff since 1981.
Her Designers Choice whisks us away to the world of Claude Monet, the famous French Impressionist painting and is one of her favourite artistic periods.
MARIA LITTLE ELEPHANT is based on the original "Elefäntle" from 1880, which incedently, was created shortly before Claude Monet moved into his house and garden in Giverny, near Paris.
She is hand-crafted from high quality, multi-coloured mohair in green-blue tones, which has a random pattern, so each one will be unique - just like the famous paintings.
Her tail and deep cornflower blue ears and rich red and sunny yellow saddlecloth are made from wool felt and she carries her trunk up high, as if she is eager to sample the sweet scents of the flowers in the garden.
She has the famous gold plated "Button in Ear" and a white label, showing that she is only limited to 500 pieces worldwide, making a very collectable bear.
