When Titanic sank on April the 14th, 1912 Steiff produced a black teddy bear, in mourning for the 1513 people who lost their lives. The bear sold rapidly and it was exciting to see one for sale at Phillips, London in 1990.
This Othello Steiff Bear is a replica of the original Titanic bear, made from the finest black mohair. He is loosely jointed, with glass pupil eyes. His stuffing is traditional wood shavings, and he has a classic Steiff growler in his tummy.
