RITA is part of The Leading Lights Series, which was launched in the 2017 Isabelle Collection.
This bear is named after Rita Hayworth, an American actress, singer and dancer, who achieved fame during the 1940's as one of the era's top stars, appearing in 61 films over 37 years. The press called her "The Love Goddess", after she became the most glamourous screen idol of the 1940's and she was the top pin-up girl for the GI's during world war II. Fred Astaire said she "danced with trained perfection and individuality" and she was his favourite dance partner. In 1980 she was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, which contributed to her death at the top age of 68. The public disclosure and discussion of her illness drew attention to Altzeimers disease, which was little known at the time and it helped to greatly increase funding for research.
RITA (along with GRETA) is the biggest bear in the 2020 Isabelle Collection, which is quite apt, as her namesake was a big star. She has lovely long, wavy ginger and cream fur, a two-tone nose and alluring eyes. She has some light fur on her big feet, which is thick and dense and this is also inbetween her pads and toes, which is unusual, but also helps to highlight them, which is important, as this bear is known for dancing!
So, just like her namesake, Rita has a glamerous appeal and really is a "Love Goddess".
