Moulin Roty has joined our range this year, after we were really taken by their teddy bears, animals, dolls and other lovely toys when we saw them at the Spring Fair in February
The French toy-maker began as a community of families and friends, who decided to live and work together, renovating a ruined French farm to create workshops and homes. Their first toys, launched in 1975 were a car made from wood and sponge and a fabric ragdoll.
From humble beginnings the company has grown, becoming an official manufacturing co-operative and surviving a fire that destroyed their original workshops. In 2010 Moulin Roty has around 40 employees, all of whom are full partners and involved in the company’s management and decision-making.
The toys that Moulin Roty produce are beautifully designed and made, from the clothes on their bears and dolls, right down to the items’ packaging. We have carefully chosen our favourite teddy bears, lovely dolls, crazy, wild characters and some superbly crafted, traditional gifts.
The Moulin Roty tool boxes are made from solid wood and are a toy that most of us will have dreamed of owning as a child. The tools are miniature, but functional and should be used under supervision. Each tool fits perfectly into it’s own slot in the box, keeping them safe for years of use. The knitting and sewing kit is equally collectable - all housed in a neat and sturdy cardboard suitcase. The contents include wool, thread and accessories for knitting, crochet and embroidery - a fabulous gift!
In addition to other gorgeous teddy bears and cute, baby-safe animals we have three crazy dogs collectively called ‘Les Toutous’ (The Doggies). Raymond, Roger and Robert are made from soft, shaggy fur with many different coloured and textured fabrics. They look a little bit wild, but we just couldn’t put them down!
Finally we have three lovely dolls - Nani, Nanou and Ninon. They are soft-bodied dolls with moulded arms, legs and heads. Each one has a different hair colour and sweet expression. Their beautifully-made outfits are very chic and fully removeable for hours of play.
